FIRST Robotics Competition

frc_main2FRC, “the varsity sport for the mind,” combines the excitement of sports with the rigors of science and technology. Within the constraints of competition rules, limited resources and demanding timelines, teams consisting of 25 or more high school students design, build and program their robotic competitors. A successful FRC team embodies all the characteristics of any successful technological enterprise. Teams are challenged to apply math and science knowledge, solve problems, make decisions, communicate complex ideas, manage resources, raise funds, design a team “brand,” collaborate and exercise leadership. It’s as close to “real-world engineering” as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time as well as technical and entrepreneurial expertise guiding teams throughout the build and competition seasons from Winter to Spring each year.
