Donald Bowers Joins NYC/NJ FIRST Team

Continued from the September 2007 Newsletter

Prior to joining FIRST, Donald was manager of corporate and community relations at the New York Blood Center. While at Johnson & Johnson from 1980 to 2004, Donald served in a variety of community affairs capacities, including director of community relations and public affairs. Donald served on the boards of several non-profits, helping to raise more than $50 million over the course of his career.

Donald was one of the very first FIRST Champions in New Jersey, being instrumental in bringing the FIRST Robotics Competition to the mid-Atlantic region in 1995. Back then there were only two regional competitions outside of New Hampshire - the one in New Jersey sponsored by Johnson & Johnson, and the other in Chicago sponsored by Motorola. Since then, Donald has served as a member of the New Jersey FIRST Robotics Competition Planning Committee, as MC at the NJ regional, and most recently as president of the parents' association of the FIRST team at Somerville High School where his daughter is a member.

"It is great to have Donald on board," adds Schaeffer enthusiastically. "School participation in FIRST is growing across the metro region - we need to expand our efforts to be able to accommodate that growth and Donald is just the person who help us do that."
