FIRST is a volunteer-driven organization. We rely on the time, energy, and creativity of our many dedicated volunteers to make FIRST a success each year.


We welcome volunteers with both technical and nontechnical backgrounds to help student team members acquire experience in applying technology and math as well as learn teamwork, cooperation, project management and leadership.

You can help out at a single event, work with a team or be a part of a New York City or New Jersey FIRST Planning Committee. As a FIRST volunteer, you get training and resources so that you can participate effectively.

Besides helping our kids, you’ll be inspired by their energy, creativity, and determination. You’ll have the opportunity to network with other adult volunteers and be exposed to new experiences. You may even learn something new about yourself!
