Why We Do What We Do

"Technical talent is more important than ever, given that technology is increasingly permeating all aspects of business, society and our personal lives.  We are developing highly sophisticated, technology-based businesses, industries and economies that are also exceptionally complex, integrated global systems.  New technologies are both disrupting and creating whole new opportunities in industry after industry, from media and entertainment to healthcare and bioinformatics."

FIRST Hero: Mark Sharfshteyn

" Working w ith FIRST is a very rewarding experience. I've seen first hand the impact that it's having on kids. I am proud of the work that the NYC FLL Planning Committee has done for the past 6 years.  It is a true testament to how ordinary people can make a real difference in kids' lives."

News from
New York City / New Jersey FIRST
September 2007

FIRST LEGO League, or FLL as we will hurriedly call it, is FIRST's program for kids 9 to 14 years of age. FLL uses robotics as a vehicle for engaging kids in the process of technological innovation. It also brings communities together to celebrate the achievements of their students working smart in science and technology.

You can become a part of the celebration. Come on out to cheer the kids on. FIRST is about changing our culture so that greater importance is placed on science and technology among young people. Science and technology are the tools with which we will confront the challenges of our future and remain competitive in the technologically-driven global economy. Your participation can help let kids know the importance of their achievements.

Whether you live or work in New York City or New Jersey, there's a FIRST LEGO League tournament near you. Come out and join the fun. Bring family and friends. All FLL events are free and open to the public.
