The New Jersey Regional, now in it's eleventh
year, began at the Rutgers University Gymnasium in 1997.
Originally called the Johnson & Johnson Mid-Atlantic
Regional, the event was one of two FIRST competitions in
the United States. Starting with small table-top robotics,
the event has grown into a much larger scale sports-like
event, ultimately awarding the "best of the best"
in many fields, including best website, sportsmanship and
industrial design. As the number of teams participating
in the FIRST Robotics Competition has grown, so has the
NJ Regional. Starting with a mere 12 FIRST Robotics teams
at the Rutgers Gymnasium, the Sovereign Bank Arena now includes
over 60 teams from as far away as Brazil!
