Team Support Activities
Each year, New York City/New Jersey FIRST
hosts a variety of programs that foster and support the
development of FIRST Robotics, FIRST LEGO League and FIRST
Tech Challenge teams. See our Calendar
for program location and dates.
Remote Kick-off for
FIRST Robotics Competition
FIRST Robotics teams from the NYC/NJ FIRST region participate
in the unveiling of the annual game via a NASA satellite
downlink at two locations in the metro area. Each location
also offers workshops designed to help build team management
and technical skills in subjects such as pneumatics, control
system programming, robot design, and getting a team started.
New York City FIRST
Robotics Technology Leadership Workshops
We offer six full day Saturday workshops designed to build
the technical and team management skills of FIRST Robotics
teacher-coaches and student team leaders. Hosted by Polytechnic
University, workshop topics typically include principles
of robotics, team building and management, robot design
and fabrication, programming and testing, and computer animation.
Hands-on, group activities using FIRST Robovation Kits are
conducted by the Polybots, (the Polytechnic Engineering
Students Club), SIAC engineers, Goldman Sachs engineers,
Google engineers and Polytechnic alumni.
NYC FIRST LEGO Teacher
Training Workshops
This workshop series is designed to introduce teachers to
FIRST LEGO League (FLL), robot construction and programming
using the LEGO MindStorms product. It also covers the strategies
for maximizing instructional impact of participation in
FLL. The series includes three one-day workshops in the
General Engineering Labs of Polytechnic University
New Jersey FIRST Robotics
Technology Leadership Workshops
This series of workshops, hosted by the New Jersey Institute
of Technology, offers the same course content as the New
York City workshops for teacher-coaches and student team
leaders. Workshop topics typically include principles of
robotics, team building and management, robot design and
fabrication, programming and testing, and computer animation.
Hands-on, group activities using FIRST Robovation Kits are
also run.
